Andrea Roa

M.A., M.S., CHES
I am dedicated to helping people to age better and move better!  I have a Master of Science in Health Education from Purdue University and a Psychology Master of Arts from Western New Mexico University.  I am a Certified Health Education Specialist by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, a Master Certified Health Coach by the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute, and a Certified Lifestyle Coach by the Association of Diabetes Care & Education Specialists.  Since 1993, I have earned several fitness certifications accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.

My professional journey in wellness began in my early twenties, while working in the healthcare industry.  I obtained my first fitness certification because of my love of sport and physical activities along with my desire to help others enjoy an active lifestyle.  Years later, my direction shifted towards health education due to an increased interest to help people prevent and manage chronic conditions.  Inspired by working in a community health and medical education role for over a decade, I started a Health & Wellness Coach practice.  My educational and professional experiences have made me knowledgeable of a variety of health, wellness, behavior change and learning theories to plan, coordinate and facilitate programs for individuals, groups and the workplace that promote positive health habits.

I am passionate about empowering others to take charge of their health and flourish because I believe health is more complex than food and exercise. I conceptualize a coaching experience that acknowledges biopsychosocial factors contributing to both health and disease, as well as recognizes the strengths, prior knowledge, and experiences of each individual so they may acquire, apply, and sustain the health and wellness skills they need to be better.

As a wife, working parent and caregiver to a parent with chronic health issues, I can relate to the unique challenges of multigenerational responsibilities.  I understand implementing and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits can be difficult, especially when trying to navigate a busy schedule, caregiving, age-related physiological changes and more.

I help clients plan and execute healthy living strategies, specializing in the areas of physical activity, nutrition, stress control, diabetes prevention and chronic conditions.  Within these areas, I often work with middle-aged to older adults to help them find the right combination of movement, nourishment, sleep, and flourishing techniques to better manage their health status and minimize their risk of disease and disability. I enjoy helping people achieve an active and more balanced way of life, moving toward their optimal level of health and well-being.
